PLAN YOUR TRIP

Step 1:

You need to choose which season you want to visit. Though both are really beautiful, they both have many different things to offer.

Summer:

In the summer, we have free concerts every Thursday and farmers' markets every Wednesday. Along with all of the events, there is a plethora of outdoor recreation available during the summer. We have a bunch of hiking and biking. We also offer many guided outdoor trips if you want to try something new, such as rafting, horseback riding, and ziplining. On top of that, Big Sky is 45 minutes away from Yellowstone National Park, which is open to vehicular traffic in the summer months.

Winter:

In the winter, Big Sky is primarily known for its vast alpine skiing. Not only alpine skiing, we also are home to Lone Mountain Ranch, which has one of the largest Nordic trail systems in North America. During this time, you have the opportunity to see Yellowstone National Park in a whole new way. In the winter, the park is open only by guided tours by snow coach or snowmobile. During the winter season, there are also many unique dining experiences that you and your family can embark on. There is the Montana Dinner Yurt which is where you can ride in a snowcat out to a remote yurt and get served a five-course Montana-inspired meal.

Yellowstone National Park, nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, is a natural wonderland that captures the beauty of the American West. Established in 1872, it is the world’s first national park and continues to draw millions of visitors each year with its breathtaking scenery and abundant wildlife. West Yellowstone is the closest entrance into the park from Big Sky. To preserve its beauty, remember to stay on boardwalks and designated trails and do not touch or throw objects into thermal features.

Once you have made the decision of when you want to visit, start looking for airline tickets and fly into the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport. Or plan your road trip! While you're on your computer, we highly recommend renting a car for your stay. Big Sky does not have Uber or Lyft, and our public transportation is limited. You will have a lot more options if you have personal access to a vehicle.
